Leland was officially incorporated as a town in 1989 with a population of just 1,800 residents. The population exploded after the new millennium, growing to more than 10,000 residents and doubling its geographic size within just one decade. As one of the fastest-growing towns in the nation, Leland continues to attract economic wealth as new businesses rush to the area to meet the demand of the growing number of residents.
The town of Leland is known for its great sense of community. With a blossoming business community, award-winning golf courses, parks and trails, this growing town is excellent for families. Leland is part of the Brunswick County School District, with students served by Lincoln or Belville Elementary School, Leland Middle School, and North Brunswick High School.

There has been substantial development in business, with a vast amount of new commercial centers, restaurants, and retail continuing to regularly open in Leland.
