“Rocky Point” NC was the name given to a new community founded in 1663 by Barbados commissioners as first made attempts to settle the Lower Cape Fear and explored the northeast branch of the Cape Fear River. Today, Rocky Point remains small rural community with a population of 1,660, though it is growing fairly rapidly. Though small, the town is made up of a great community with numerous natural aspects that create a wonderful and scenic place to live.
Rocky Point NC is the home of the Lewis Nursery & Farm, which is a large blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, and pepper producer. Lewis Farms was started in 1953, primarily as a producer of strawberries. Today, they feature 140 acres of strawberries, 350 acres of blueberries, 20 acres of blackberries, and 140 acres of green pepper. Visitors from all over the state come every year to pick their own fruit and indulge in the farm’s delicious homemade ice cream. The agriculture industry is abundant throughout Rocky Point and Pender County. The area is home to numerous farmers’ markets and other pick-your-own produce farms. During the warmer months, fresh seafood floods into the area as fishermen and shrimpers sell their freshly caught bounty along roadside stands that pop up all throughout Pender County, NC.
Though small in size, Rocky Point NC is still home to great restaurants and eateries. The world-famous Paul's Place hot dogs finds its home here. Known for their hotdogs and special relish, Paul’s Place has become a local phenomenon. Also in Rocky Point is Dock and Grill, a restaurant located on HWY 210 toward the Cape Fear River that features a boat launch, camping sites, and an indoor dining area. Also in Rocky Point are three fast food restaurants and a small Chinese restaurant. Even more options reside in the neighboring towns, just a short drive away.
The community of Rocky Point also offers numerous conveniences despite its smaller size. Home to a post office, three gas stations and convenience stores, a truck stop, a major chain grocery store, and an animal hospital, Rocky Point provides all the amenities needed while still maintaining its small town charm.
Rocky Point is also just a short distance away from more of the natural beauty that the state has to offer. Just a short drive, 15-20 miles from Rocky Point, is the beautiful Wrightsville Beach. This provides residents with even more options for shops, restaurants, and activities. Here one can find access to miles of pristine white sand and beautiful water, where there are plenty of opportunities for fishing, surfing and laying in the sand, as well as access to award-winning restaurants serving up fresh seafood and local favorites.
As a part of Pender County, Rocky Point is served by Rocky Point Primary School and Cape Fear Elementary School, Cape Fear Middle School, and Heide Trask Senior High School. Rocky Point is also the home of Westview Bible College
Rocky Point is within driving distance of numerous larger towns and urban centers. The average citizen commutes twenty to thirty minutes to work in these larger area, which provide ample career and economic opportunities. Land taxes and housing prices in Rocky Point are currently low, providing a lower initial cost for those looking to invest in a home.
